Perfume, Again, Always, Forever
By You | August 4, 2007
I may have written about perfume before, but I will do it again now, and probably again and again in the future. It is one of my favorite girlie subjects. I spend way too much time at perfume shop websites like DM Fragrances. Now yes, until they invent smell-o-net (which I don’t expect to be coming my way any sooner than smell-o-vision seems to be taking to invent) shopping for perfume can online is only part of the entire perfume shopping oeuvre, but it can nevertheless be an important part.
For starters, you take a site like this that’s clean, fresh looking, has informative articles and news sections, and a pretty hefty perfume directory, and already you know more than you would if you were standing in front of a giant department store perfume counter staring at 328 different bottles. And let’s not even start on the department store perfume whores that you can avoid altogether if you shop online. OK, so you can’t sniff. And this particular site is in the UK, so shipping might be an issue even with their discount prices. But it’s the information, people, you can’t have too much information prior to making a purchase.
I think we’ll make that Hey You! Shoppers Rule, um, No. 4 — use the internet to get as much information as possible about the products you are looking to purchase before you ever set foot into a brick and mortar building. You’ll know pricing, you’ll know competing product, you’ll know what’s out there. You’ll be, as one famous discount clothing store says, “an educated consumer.” Use what’s out there, no matter where it’s located, and in the end, you’ll get your best value for the dollar (or pound or euro). When you do, you’ll feel good about your purchasing patterns, and you’ll be happy to support the small local businesses you’re likely to find out there. It really does feel better than buying from a conglomerate.
To sum up, then: (1) shopping for perfume, check out DM Fragrances for good information, research, value, discounts, and if you’re in the UK easy shipping; (2) always turn to sites like this before making purchases. The time investment is so tiny and the dollars saved can be significant.
Have fun out there.
